The Bio-Rad C1000 is a modular and high-performance thermal cycling platform with a main chassis to which various interchangeable reaction modules (96-well fast, dual 48/48 fast, 384-well, optical module for real-time PCR) can be added without tools, allowing the instrument to be adapted to specific needs. Its temperature range extends from 0 to 100 °C, and the modules offer rapid ramp-up/ramp-down: up to 5 °C/second for certain formats. Temperature accuracy reaches ±0.2 °C, and well-to-well uniformity is approximately ±0.4 °C within 10 seconds of reaching 90 °C. The large color touchscreen and multiple USB ports (5 USB-A, 1 USB-B) facilitate setup, protocol editing, data export, and keyboard or mouse connection. The instrument is designed for a maximum power consumption of approximately 400 W (for the standard version) or up to 850 W depending on the module/configuration. Its compact size (approximately 33 × 46 × 20 cm) and weight of approximately 10 kg (23–24 lb) allow for easy benchtop integration. Thanks to the gradient function, different initiation temperatures can be quickly tested on the same plate. The instrument is also compatible with network and PC control configurations to manage up to 32 units, making it suitable for high-productivity environments. Finally, its flexibility allows for switching from simple standard PCR to qPCR or sequencing applications, depending on the associated module.
