The BMG Labtech CLARIOstar Plus is a high-end multi-modular microplate reader designed to meet the evolving requirements of research laboratories, scientific platforms, and biotechnology industries. It combines three complementary optical technologies to provide exceptional flexibility and sensitivity: Linear Variable Filter Monochromators (LVFs) with adjustable bandwidths from 8 to 100 nm for both excitation and emission wavelengths, highly sensitive optical filters optimized for fluorescent applications, and an ultra-fast UV/Vis spectrometer enabling complete readings in less than one second per well, over a spectral band from 220 to 1000 nm. The CLARIOstar Plus excels in a wide variety of analytical approaches: absorbance (UV/Vis), fluorescence intensity (including FRET), fluorescence polarization, luminescence (flash, glow, BRET), delayed fluorescence (TR-FRET), AlphaScreen/AlphaLISA/AlphaPlex detection and nephelometry. It offers different measurement modes such as top- or bottom-well reading, end-point and kinetic measurements, sequential excitation and emission, spectral scan and well scan. It is compatible with 6- to 1536-well microplates, as well as the LVis Plate (16 x 2 µL microspots). It has options such as a robotic interface, a barcode sensor, multiple shaking modes, temperature incubation (up to 45°C or 65°C), automatic Z-autofocus, an anti-condensation heated tray, reagent injectors, and atmospheric control of O2 and CO2. In terms of performance, the "Flying" mode allows for very fast reading: approximately 9 seconds for a 96-well plate, 14 seconds for 384 wells, and 27 seconds for 1536 wells. It uses a high-energy xenon flash lamp and a dedicated laser for AlphaScreen/AlphaLISA. Detectors include a low-noise photomultiplier, a red-shifted photomultiplier, and a CCD spectrometer. The Enhanced Dynamic Range (EDR) system ensures linear readings across a wide dynamic range, without the need for manual adjustment. Fast autofocus eliminates pre-adjustments, and the Voyager interface facilitates acquisition and automation. Fully modular, the CLARIOstar Plus can evolve with new applications.
